Metallica VFX Highlights

TT Games collaborated with Rocksteady on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (known as Project Metallica). While my run on Metallica was brief, I quite enjoyed it and got to work on some particularly fun effects.

Specifically, Joker’s “Suicide Strikes”; working on them was all about delivering powerful, visceral moments that felt as satisfying as they looked. The effects needed to punctuate key points in the animation, emphasizing every hit and attack with impactful visuals.

Each strike - from Terminauts to Troopers, Bombers, and Destroyers - had to be paired with effects that underscored Joker’s chaotic energy.

To make every impact resonate, I used ground kickups and blood spills to enhance the intensity.

Onomatopoeic “HA HA HA” overlays and lingering trails further amplified the Joker’s character, making the moves memorable and explosive.

Beyond the combat effects, I also contributed to the dynamic environmental systems with lava bubbling bursts and spills, created using Embergen and Bifrost in Maya.

These elements added to the destructible, ever-changing landscapes, enriching the experience with layers of immersion.
